Italian Day on the Drive is back this weekend in Vancouver, one of the city’s marquee events of the summer, and it’s got Glance inspired to celebrate the pride that, especially in the kitchen, has inspired so much passion.
Taking place this Sunday, June 10, Italian Day is set to fill 14 blocks of Commercial Drive with more than 200,000 attendees and more than 120 merchants, community partners and more, all descending on Little Italy to celebrate the rich culture, heritage, and community that has given so much to Vancouver and the world.
To salute Italian Day on the Drive, Glance has put together this list of ways you can get the most out of the day and celebrate Italia in style.
Get reading, get hungry, get Glance and get going prontissimo!
New this year for Italian Day is an entire intersection full of traditional feel-good Italian fare, courtesy of the Italian Chamber of Commerce. Head to the corner of Grant Street and Commercial to check out 15 stations showcasing some of Italy’s top delicacies, created in collaboration with local chefs, as well as a wide variety of fine wines, liquors, and all the pizza, prosciutto and parmesan you could ask for.
On drive and hungry for more? Fet’s Whiskey Kitchen is the perfect Glance favourite for capping off a busy Italian Day. Steps from the heart of the festival on Commercial Drive, Fet’s shows their love of whiskey with their wall of bottles and their mouth-watering, whiskey-inspired menu. Simply snap a photo of the bill on the Glance Pay app and presto! Your payment is completed before the payment machine is needed.
#2: Eat more!
If you can’t make it to Italian Day in Vancouver, you can still show your pride for the green, red and white on Glance this weekend and any day of the year. For refined experiences,
Carisma is where you need to go in downtown Toronto for a refined experience and hearty plates, and in Vancouver, Cafe Il Nido is the place for the freshest Italian seafood plates and one of Vancouver’s finest patios. Vancouver locals also love Frankie’s Italian Kitchen for their gloriously gooey lasagna, and Carmelo’s for their famous wood-fired pizzas.
#3: Drink a Negroni
A longstanding favourite of the Glance office team, a negroni is a beautiful thing. One part Campari, one part gin, one part sweet vermouth, service on ice with a sprig of orange peel, the legendary aperitif is both elegance and indulgence, beauty and booze. The negroni is also being feted this weekend with the international fundraising sensation Negroni Week.
Running until Sunday, June 10, Negroni Week will see more than 7,700 establishments in Vancouver, Toronto and around the world serving up the cocktail of class to support a slew of charities around the world. The event has raised more than $1.5 million since 2013 thanks to negroni lovers worldwide, and this weekend you can do your bit by raising an negroni at these Glance Pay locations:
- Brix & Mortar, Yaletown, Vancouver
- Bogart’s Bar & Restaurant, Robson Street, Vancouver
- Rogue Convention Center, Burrard Street, Vancouver
- The Corner Place, Jarvis & King, Toronto
- Figures, Yorkville, Toronto
In bocca al lupo!
